Format of the Day/Rules

Format of the day

7 aside

Maximum number of teams for 7 aside competition is 28. This means 4 groups of 7 teams, played over 4 pitches. If this was to happen everyone would play each other with the top two from each group progressing to the quarter finals.

No matter how many teams enter the tournament there will be plenty of football on the day.

11 aside

Minimum number of teams for the 11 aside competition is 10 teams. This means 2 groups of 5 teams. Where each team will play each other at 15 minutes each way, with the top two teams progressing to the semi finals again the games will be 15 minutes each way.

The maximum number of teams is 15 teams which will mean 3 groups of 5 teams.  Each game will be 15 minutes each way, which accumulates to 2 hours of football in the group stages.

The top two teams progress from each of the groups with the top two 3rd place teams joining them in the quarter finals. The knockout stages are again 15 minutes each way.

After the first 10 teams have entered the competition there will be a waiting list formed, as soon as 5 more teams have agreed to enter the third group will be activated. 

Please note teams who have provisionally booked in the tournament can still lose their place if other teams officially enter before them.

*** The Champions League is a competition of a very high standard.

7-a-side Competition Rules

1. Normal football rules apply

2. The tournament is a post season tournament so the age groups will be determined from the 09/10 season.

3. All groups have 6 teams.  Games will be 8 minutes each way no half time team talk,

4. Teams must be ready 5 minutes before kick off and in position to kick off at the allotted time.

5. Penalties shall be taken with players having a maximum of two steps back from the ball.

6. To encourage good football Goalkeepers can only release the ball via a throw.

7. Pass Backs are illegal; the ball can be played back to the keeper, who can legally use his feet. If the ball is picked up, a penalty is awarded.

8. In the event of a Free kick, opposition players must be 5 yards away.

9. All Free kicks are Direct – Goals can be scored direct from direct free kicks.

10. Goals cannot be scored straight from kick off

11. Squad max of 12 players.

12. Only 3 substitution Slots are permitted in any one game. This means you can make a double substitution with only losing 1 slot instead of two.

13. Substituted players can return to the field of play.

14. 3 pts for a win, 1 pt for a draw.

15. If the league is tied on points, the winner will be decided by goals difference, then head to head record if still a tie 5 penalties will be taken followed by sudden death penalties if necessary.

16. Any player deemed to be guilty of serious foul play (striking another player, foul and abusive language) will be reported to the FA and under the FA schedule punishment will be banned from playing for a minimum of 35 days.

17. Spectator Misconduct – Any spectator, manager, coach deemed to be guilty of serious misconduct will be immediately asked to leave the area of play and will be reported along with the team with that person is associated, to the county FA.

18. Photo identification must be brought on the day when registering players either by a passport or player ID cards, so if challenged, age and identity can be proved

19. A maximum of two academy players can register for the tournament and must be notified to the tournament coordinator, teams who play an ineligible player will be disqualified from the event

20. Please note academy players are players who played football for a professional club in season 2009-2010. Players who have been released are still classed as academy.

11-a-side Competition Rules
