The Mini Health Trainer scheme is run by Middlesbrough FC in the community as part of the Health Town 9m Healthy Town project headed by Middlesbrough Council and the Primary Care trust.

During the 12 week scheme we aim to encourage children and their families to increase physical activity levels and make positive health choices through the development of positive role models within the school environment.

Playground friends, has been very successful and it has given the children the confidence to stand in front of a group boldly with the ability to not only pass on the health messages but lead a session.”

Sarah Witherley (P.E Co-ordinator from Marton Manor Primary) agreed that playground friends has been a huge success saying “Most of the children have been working on the KS1 yard and have gained confidence in doing so. We have less children fighting and falling out as they are not bored.”
