Big Activity Days

Big Activity Days

Our full day events introduce students to the world of business and enterprise in a fun, interesting and hands on way.

This is a great opportunity for schools to bring together large groups, or full year groups to be engaged by a team of dedicated Enterprise Academy Staff.

With a strong focus on the business operations of MFC, and how the football club operates, our fun, interactive activities are designed to promote teamwork and learning "outside of the classroom"

Schools can advise us of their own curriculum requirements that the Enterprise Academy staff will develop into a fun and interactive day that meets curriculum demand. The Enterprise Academy are able to cover a wide range of topics for Key Stages 3 and 4.

Days can revolve around a carousel of activites, or can focus on one single activity. A few of the wide range of activites are detailed below.

Snip a Strip

Snip a Strip

In teams of 4 and 5, students work together to design and create a new Boro strip.  This can be as creative and wacky as the student’s want.  The activity begins with the activity leader discussing what factors are important in team working and successful employment teams.  Groups are asked to delegate job roles within their team, decide what garment they will design and draw the basic design.  Teams can shop for items to build up their design by gaining points for their hard work.

Working in teams, learners will act as advisors to a Russian Billionaire who wants to set up a new football club.

Learners will decide; Their job roles and areas of responsibility within their team, their company name, brand and logo, which players to buy (work on budgets, thinking about how to create the team) Advertising (working on budgets) What merchandise will be sold in the shop and where and how to build their new stadium.

They present their ideas to a board, having to sell their proposal as the best one that is going to create a successful business out of the new stadium.

Trading Places

Trading Places is an activity designed to give students the opportunity to experience running a mini enterprise.  Each team will take on the role of a new company in the business of producing outfits for the Boro.

Each member of the team will be designated a job role including a manager, an accountant, a promoter, a sales man and production workers. These employees will have to manage their business by purchasing paper to make their t-shirts and then sell them on for a profit. The session runs over a 2 – 3 hour period and is made up of 5 working days where each team will try to produce as many good-quality shirts as possible. By the end of the week, the team with the most money wins!

Teams will be given a loan of £150 to start their business, which will have to be paid back. They will also have to pay wages and rent through out the week. Teams can receive fines and bonuses from health and safety representatives.

The aim is to give you the opportunity to learn about the world of work and some of the issues involved in ‘running a business’. It also encourages key enterprising skills including team work, co-operation, decision making, problem solving and negotiation.

It is suitable for students aged 12-18 and can be adapted to suit the level and age of the students taking part. It can be delivered in school or at the Riverside and is usually best with large groups, up to 130 people. It is delivered in large groups to encourage competitiveness between groups. Approximately 5 Enterprise Academy staff will be delivering the activity acting as facilitators, health and safety co-ordinators and bankers.

The activity usually takes place over a morning or afternoon session, with a further activity taking place for the rest of the day.
